| Jim Chester |
Chester/Associates, PLLC
For more than a decade, Jim Chester has advised Fortune 500 companies, start-ups, and mid-sized companies in a variety of industries regarding business formation and transactions, intellectual property protection & licensing, and international business & trade legal matters. He also coordinates with foreign counsel on legal projects around the world on behalf of U.S. clients, and serves as legal advisor to foreign companies doing business with the U.S. In 2003, Jim left a larger law firm to open Chester/Associates PLLC, in Dallas, Texas so that he could better focus on the needs of his clients, and so that he could offer his services at a much more competitive rate. Jim serves as managing attorney of the firm, which that handles legal matters related to business, intellectual property, and international trade law. In addition to his work at Chester/Associates, Jim is an adjunct professor of law at Baylor University Law School, where he teaches courses on International Trade Law and International Business Transactions. He also teaches the Legal Environment of Business at the University of Dallas College of Business. A recognized expert in his field, Jim is a frequent speaker on various international business and trade topics at both regional and international events. He has written a number of articles, including recent articles published in the National Law Journal and Texas Lawyer. Jim has also served as an advisor to the Global Business program at the University of Dallas, and the Foreign Trade Institute at the University of Texas at Dallas. He is a member of the College of the State Bar of Texas. Jim is licensed to practice law in Texas and in the District of Columbia, and is admitted to practice before the U.S. Court of International Trade. He is a licensed U.S. Customs Broker and a Certified Customs Specialist. He earned a Bachelor of Science Degree with High Honors in Economics and Political Science from Texas A&M University at Commerce, and received his Juris Doctor from the South Texas College of Law. While in law school, he was a member of the school’s nationally renowned advocacy program, and also served as Assistant Managing Editor of the Corporate Counsel Review law journal. Jim also earned a Master of Laws degree in International Economic Law from the University of Houston Law Center, and studied tax law at Southern Methodist University’s Dedman School of Law. Jim currently serves as General Counsel to, or on the Board of, several non-profit entities and foundations. He has been honored for his professional and civic accomplishments by being named “Alumni Ambassador” by his alma mater, Texas A&M University at Commerce. He has also been named to the Pro Bono College of the Texas Bar Association. He is married to Beatrice Haggerty Chester, and is the proud father of three children: Patrick, Becket and Lillian.
